[Name]: Shakuyaku
[Canon]: One Piece
[Age]: Unconfirmed. At the very least, I’d guess around 65, but she’s probably closer to 70.
[Gender]: Female
[Canon Point]: Episode 392 / Chapter 498
[History]: Here!
[Personality]: Shakki’s a business woman with her mind on her money and her money on her mind. Running a bar that proudly brags about it’s exuberant prices, her main goal is to obtain as much cash as physically possible, for reason’s nobody is really quite sure of. Being a lone woman on an island ruled by a sadistic upperclass and frequently visited by extraordinarily strong pirates, it can be assumed Shakki is a pretty tough customer, seeing as she’s not only managed to survive by herself and run a successful business - she’s managed to do so for more than forty years. Even before that, she mentions that she was notorious enough to warrant the attention of the Marines, and even able to elude them for her entire pirating career.
If you need information (or exposition) Shakki’s the one you go to. Obsessively collecting every little piece of info she can find, she prides herself on being extremely well-informed about the world and people around her. She seems to know everything, from major players in the race to becoming Pirate King, to random trivia like what Chopper’s favourite food is. It’s not clear where Shakki gets all her intel, since she rarely ever explains herself, trying to keep an air of mystery, but wherever she gets it, it’s damn good.
Although she’s been through a lot and could easily school those rookie pirates, Shakki’s incredibly laid back. So long as it’s a friend (or a friend of a friend of a friend), she won’t bat an eyelash at someone raiding her fridge without permission or using her bar as a base for criminal activity. Probably because she’s been through just about everything life could possibly throw at her during her time as a pirate, nothing bothers really bothers her anymore.
Shakki often comes off as a motherly figure, despite her less that clean criminal record. She becomes easily attached to children - and, to some extent, typically cute things like Chopper, if the way she offered him candy is anything to go by - and adapts the role of guardian quickly. She cares enough about the children she’s met that she expresses genuine excitement when seeing one of them again, and ends up prying into his love life much like mother would when the prospect he may have a girlfriend arises.
If there’s anything Shakuyaku loves, it’s teasing people. Whether it’s by eating rice off their face or threatening them with a massive price tag for cotton candy, Shakki adores getting reactions out of people. Fuelled by the lack of excitement that comes with running a legitimate business, she often tries to gently push people’s buttons, always being sure to respect their boundaries. When she asked Kiemi whether or not she and Hachi were having sex, she immediately backed off when it became apparent Kiemi was far too innocent and naive to comprehend what she was really saying, politely laughing it off and dropping the subject.
Although Shakuyaku is usually able to shrug just about anything off, she despises anyone who tries to get out of paying a bill. During her introduction, she’s in the middle of beating a man unconscious for trying to rip her off, even going as far as to ask Hachi to wait a while so she can finish her no holds barred beatdown. This rule doesn’t apply to her friends and loved ones, but that may be because she doesn’t actually charged them for all the food they eat at her bar.
Another notable trait of Shakki’s is her altruism. Although she has connections and favours owed to her by to the Gorgon Sisters, the Fishmen, the Strawhats and even Gol D. Rogers’ crew, she never calls on them for a thing. With a simple reminder of the many things she’s done, Shakki could easily have a small army at her command, or mountains of gold delivered to her doorstep, however she leaves others be, content with the knowledge that she did the right thing. She finds it easier to be kind to children than she does to adults, if her complete lack of mercy towards a dine-and-dash customer is anything to go by, and in extreme situations she’s willing to risk being executed for treason in order to save children from being sent back to their lives of slavery.
Shakki has a strong - albeit slightly twisted - sense of justice. She’s strongly against slavery and the social divide between Fishmen and humans, however she sees no problem in living as a pirate and, later in life, ripping people off by overcharging. The easiest way to explain her line of thought would be ‘does this effect an innocent’. See, although she’s ripping people off, it’s implied she only rips off pirates, people who you could assume to deserve the rough treatment, whereas Shakki finds slavery offensive because it effects the lives of people who haven’t done anything to earn it.
She’s a rather lonely character when it all comes down to it. Spending her days behind a bar, with most of her friends dead or on a faraway island, it’s not surprising that Shakki is so open to forming new friendships. Oddly enough, however, although Rayleigh is far from an ideal best friend (because, really, the guy’s a damn mooch) and ambiguous love interest for her, Shakki never appears bothered by his promiscuity or frequent long-term disappearances. It’s obvious that she focuses on the good in people, potentially because she sub-consciously doesn’t want to be left completely alone.
That said, Shakki isn’t a clingy person. She actively encourages her loved ones to go and do as they please, whether that involves staying by her side or heading out to the open seas... Or ditching her to go pick up pretty girls at the amusement park, whatever.
[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
✔ Hand-to-Hand Combat
She’s able to beat the snot out of a man much physically larger than her with little to no effort whatsoever (she didn’t even have to put her cigarette down!) and after being a pirate for so long, she’s probably got some mad skills under her belt.
✔ Cooking
Assuming that she was the one who made all the food Brook was eating, Shakuyaku is a decent chef. At the very least, she can make a mean bowl of rice.
✔ Unusual Ageing
It’s likely just a visual gag, but Shakuyaku hasn’t aged in at over twenty years. It’s not explained how she does it, and even other characters express confusion as to why she looks nothing like an old woman.
✔ Confident
Shakki is a strong, independent woman who don’t need no- Alright, seriously though, Shakki is extremely confident in her abilities and appearance, but not overly so. She knows what she can do and doesn’t waste time putting herself down.
✘ Typical Human
Unlike quite a few characters in her canon, Shakki has no confirmed Devil Fruit or Haki powers, making her, physically, a completely average human woman.
✘ Nasty Habits
Shakki is literally never seen without a cigarette in hand and it’s likely, given that she runs a bar and hangs out with pirates all day, that drinks, as well. Needless to say, those aren’t exactly healthy habits and aren’t going to do her lungs or liver any favours.
✘ Emotionally Shut-Off
Lets face it, nobody can be so cool all the time. Shakki’s got lots of friends, but very few of them actually know a single thing about her. She protects herself emotionally, which leaves her even more lonely than she would be if she opened up a little more.
✘ Blunt
There are lots of things Shakki could probably put more delicately. That said, she’s got no time for that, so brutal honesty it is.
[Limited Powers]:
None. Since Shakki is 100% All-Natural Organic™ Human, she’ll be staying the same.
[Other Important Facts]:
She’s not dating or married to Rayleigh, but they’ve probably messed around, I mean come on.

Oh, my... Keimi-chan is here?
[ shakki smiles. that’s good, there’s someone she recognizes, someone she’s connected to, even if it’s only through hachi. better than nothing, right? ]
That’s good. Ah, but it must be lonely for her without Hacchan, right? Everyone, please make sure to play nicely with Keimi-chan to make her feel better, alright? If you do, you’ll get an extra special reward.
[ a wink and a long drag of her cigarette. her lips are curled up in a faint smile, like she might starting giggling at any moment. somehow, she manages to hold her laughter back, instead choosing to clear her throat. ]
I mean it, though. I don’t want to hear that any of you made her cry. She’s a nice girl, so treat her properly.
